Spalding flax processor wins SaskFlax Crop Production Week contest

(Saskatoon, SK) – Kathy Johnson, a processor from Spalding, SK was the lucky winner of a Crop Production Week package offered by the Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission (SaskFlax).

SaskFlax ran a contest over the past few months on its website, offering a chance on a prize package to all those who participated in an online survey about their Market Support Program. The Market Support program is a pilot project that provides up-to-date online information to producers and industry stakeholders on factors affecting flax markets.

“We wanted to offer an incentive to everyone for participating in the survey,” said Linda Braun, Executive Director of SaskFlax. “It was important for us to get feedback on our Market Support Program, but we all know how many surveys people are asked to complete on a regular basis. The contest was also a way to encourage participation in our annual meeting and Flax Day Conference.”

“I’m so pleased to have won,” Johnson said upon learning she was the contest winner. “What a great way for SaskFlax to generate excitement about Crop Production Week. It’s a great event.”

Kathy and her husband Kevin own Northern Nutraceuticals, a company that supplies natural flaxseed oil, borage seed oil and hempseed oil for use in natural health products, functional foods and cosmetics.

The SaskFlax Crop Production Week package will include:

  • A complementary pass to the Flax Day 2010 conference
  • Two nights’ accommodation at the Saskatoon Inn (donated by SaskFlax)
  • A dinner for two at Botanica Restaurant (donated by Saskatoon Inn)
  • A signed edition of the new flax cookbook, Everything Flax
  • A complementary copy of N.Lee Pengilly’s book, The Essential Flax
